I Go the 'Xtra' Mile For My Community and All In It.
Note: This is a very early MLK Day/Black History Month 2026 topic:
While researching groups inside the 'real life superhero' or 'RLSH' community on their wiki, this phrase, 'Xtra,' popped into my mind at 4:44am, on October 28, 2025.
It's a Black parallel to the 'X-Alt' or 'extreme altruist' model popularized by a White anti violence and stalking advocate as a more grounded alternative within the broader 'RLSH' movement.
X-Alt - RLSH Wiki
I wonder how many Black 'RLSH' or 'X-Alts' are there? This 'Xtra' concept could be an umbrella under which they could organize. If it catches on.
'Xtra' is derived from the 'X' earned in the Nation of Islam acknowledging captivity and erasure of identity imposed upon Black people. It also means activating our God-given, unlimited potential.
As with the 'X-Alt' model, it pays homage to heroism and social commentary in 'The X Men' of Marvel Comics fame, a source of inspiration for many advocates.
Lastly, it's a recognition of my being part of Generation X with all the cynicism and service it entails.
My 'Cap Black' role is an outgrowth of the civil rights and Black power movements, with my generation as their first direct beneficiaries.
I claim both in gratitude and research formations as diverse as the Nation of Islam, original Black Panther Party For Self Defense, Deacons For Defense and Justice, SCLC, SNCC, CORE and later, the Nation's famed 'Dopebusters,' Peacekeepers and 10,000 Fearless, Concerned Black Men, MadDads, Detroit 300, Detroit Street Watchers, Lion of Judah Armed Forces, Self Defense Brigade, Tendea Family, among others, for ways to independently secure and support all within our community.
It's in this light that my initial '1 Man Street Patrol' became 'Cap Black Street Patrol,' now manifested as 'Borrow A Brother' volunteer safety escorts for female friends and worthy causes, 'Halt Hunger' food outreach and 'Prayerful Panther' racial justice advocacy.
As an 'Xtra,' I know I'm more than those seeking to degrade me. I offer ways to fight the degradation and deprivation of safety and opportunity they impose.
The Black experience is a heroic one, a spiritual one and a practical one all in one.
Central to being an 'Xtra' Brother is reaching into our experience and expressing it through active advocacy and outreach.
Original salute to 'Xtra' sisters and Brothers fighting the war outside of our doors instead of sitting it out!
Be 'Xtra Black!' to empower our community!: 'Give 'Xtra!' 'Go the 'Xtra' mile- we're worthwhile!
Special salute to 'real life superheroes,' and remaining 'X-Alts,' for creatively addressing problems overlooked by too many unconcerned, uncreative 'normal' people.
Cap Black.
